Steel gratings that meet AASHTO specifications for H-10, H-15 and H-20 loads are designed for applications subject to heavy rolling and static vehicular loads. Because conditions can vary from light-duty forklifts to semi-trucks and trailers carrying maximum allowable highway loads, Indiana Gratings manufactures these steel grating products in various bar sizes and spacings.

What’s H-10, H-15 & H-20 Grating?

AASHTO is a nonprofit association with the goal of developing an integrated national transportation system. It represents the major transportation modes of air, highways, public, active, rail, and water. The organization has produced a range of specifications covering all types of moving traffic loading conditions, from pedestrian up to 18-wheeler. Here are the H-10, H-15 & H-20 loading specifications:

Steel Grating Rated To Meet AASHTO H-10 Specification

Steel gratings that conform to AASHTO specifications for H-10 loads have been field-proven to support single-wheeled truck traffic with a 16,000-pound axle load.

Steel Grating Rated To Meet AASHTO H-15 Specification

Steel gratings that conform to AASHTO specifications for H-15 loads have been field-proven to support single-wheeled truck traffic with a 30,000-pound axle load.

Steel Grating Rated To Meet AASHTO H-20 Specification

Steel gratings that comply with AASHTO specifications for H-20 loads have been field-proven to support double-wheeled truck traffic with a 32,000-pound axle load.

How It’s Made?

H-10, H-15 and H-20 steel grating are built by fusing bearing bars and cross bars together at high temperatures to form a permanent joint. This type of grating utilizes deeper and thicker bearing bars to provide better durability, strength, and rigidity than light-duty grating options.

This grating is manufactured from carbon steel. They’re available bare, painted, or hot-dip galvanized.

Uses For H-10, H-15 and H-20 Steel Grating

This versatile product can safely support heavyweight vehicles while satisfying drainage and airflow requirements. Typical uses of H-10, H-15 and H-20 steel grating are:

  • Vehicular Trenches
  • Wash Racks
  • Vehicular Sump Pits
  • Material Screens
  • Forklift Traffic
  • Airfield Landing Mats
  • Bridges
  • Plant Floors
  • Vault Covers
  • Loading Docks
  • Other Areas With Truck, Vehicle, or Forklift Traffic

Your H-10, H-15 & H-20 Steel Grating Source

Today’s construction projects demand the utmost precision and quality. Indiana Gratings is proud to be your first choice for H-10, H-15 and H-20 steel grating.

When developing H-10, H-15 or H-20 steel grating products, a great starting point is bar spacing. Once the bar spacing is selected, the bearing bar size is specified based upon the anticipated load and unsupported span. Afterward, cross bar selection takes place. The life-cycle of a steel grating product is often influenced by the cross bar selection.

H-10, H-15 and H-20 loads are evaluated following AASHTO’s “Maximum Traffic Conditions”. If these load conditions don’t adequately address your application, please reach out to our engineering department. We’ll gladly develop steel grating for your specific needs.
